The Baltimore Bicycling Club also supports bicycling as a means of transportation. If you look at our Links page, you will notice a number of advocacy organizations with which we have aligned our efforts. This page is devoted to specific endeavors these organizations promote.

Western Baltimore County Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Plan |
The Western Baltimore County Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Plan will be an "action plan" for constructing pedestrian and bicycle improvements in the urban area of the western side of Baltimore County in the First, Second, Third, and Fourth County Council Districts. The plan is being developed by an advisory committee composed of representatives from the community and county and state government, and will be based on the needs and desires expressed by the citizens who live or work in the area. It will identify specific projects to be implemented and provide recommendations for phasing and funding.
Your Help is Needed!
Your help is needed to identify improvements to the pedestrian and bicycle network in your area. Please attend one or more of the workshops listed below to share your ideas. Following an introductory presentation, and a survey about your experiences, you can sketch out your suggestions on maps. Members of the Action Committee will facilitate the discussion and record your comments. Your ideas will help make the Western County Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Plan responsive to your needs. Show your support for improving the environment for walking and biking, provide your input, and encourage others to participate as well. A flyer (PDF) is available for you to share with others who may be interested in attending.

Although the weather caused school closings in many counties approximately 400 to 500 people attended. Additionally, there were twenty exhibitors displaying projects and engaging the audience. The high attendance indicates that people care deeply about promoting bicycling as a means of alternative transportation. As our population grows it is critical that a safe infrastructure, along with laws protecting bicyclists, are intact. |

To start things off, the BBC won the new citizen rep position on the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board - Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Group. This puts us in a very good strategic position for bicycle advocacy in the region.
Now I realize many of you trust us to support bicycling to the best of our ability and leave you to enjoy the many fine cycling opportunities that Maryland does have to offer and that's fine. But we would be remiss if we did not occasionally come to you and ask what are your priorities for advocacy and give you an opportunity to participate.

Whether you are interested in this position or not it is news worthy that this is the first time that a citizen representative will have voting rights on this committee thanks to the efforts of the Baltimore Bicycling Club and to the current committee and the BRTB for being receptive to the idea. I encourage anyone interested to apply and get involved in changing the area to be bicycle and pedestrian friendly.
